Changing the Narrative, One book at a time
WHAT IS CAPE?
CAPE is a student-led nonprofit initiative that creates, publishes, and donates inclusive children’s books. We challenge outdated messages in traditional stories—replacing them with narratives that celebrate empathy, diversity, and self-worth. Our books help children explore identity, emotions, and resilience in a way that affirms who they are, not who they should become.
Our mission is to foster creativity and impact, enabling young authors to share their work with children in schools and pediatric hospitals. With a focus on inclusivity and positive messaging, Cape Club seeks to inspire a future generation that appreciates diversity in storytelling. Through storytelling, CAPE supports emotional wellness, literacy, and representation—while giving students a platform to lead and create impact.
What we offer
Inclusive Book Creation
We help students write and illustrate original children’s books that challenge harmful and outdated messages often found in traditional stories. Our books promote self-worth, empathy, and inclusion—without requiring characters to “change” to be accepted.
National Initiatives & Community
From bookmark contests to plushie drives, we offer nationwide opportunities to participate, lead, and connect with like-minded changemakers.
Creative Student Involvement
Members design bookmarks, create illustrations, write stories, and even submit artwork for contests and merch design.
Youth Leadership + Service/Volunteers
Students can lead service projects, organize chapter events, and earn certified volunteer hours and awards (like PVSA).
School + Hospital Partnerships
We partner with educational and healthcare institutions to host reading events, workshops, and meaningful outreach.
Book + Plushie Donations
We donate our original stories—often with handmade plushies, bookmarks, or care items—to pediatric hospitals, schools, and libraries.
Our Mission
Meaningful Change
At Cape Club, we aim to redefine children's literature by challenging harmful stereotypes. Our mission revolves around educating and inspiring youth through reading, writing, and creative expression. By giving young thinkers a voice and a platform, we strive to create authentic narratives that resonate with all children, fostering empathy and understanding in our communities while empowering students to become storytellers, changemakers, and champions of empathy.

Our
Story
Get to Know Us
CAPE was founded by two students—one with a passion for pediatric care and literacy, and the other with a love for storytelling and digital art—who saw an opportunity to make a difference through creativity while contributing an impact at their high-school with connecting their multimedia + medical magnet academy.

While regularly reading to children, Maggie Ha began noticing troubling patterns in traditional children’s books—stories that taught kids they had to change to be accepted.
Meanwhile, Jenny Duong was exploring her own creative projects in comics and writing, looking for a way to bring her stories to life while contributing to something meaningful.
Together, we realized that there weren’t enough inclusive, empowering stories for children—or platforms for youth creators to challenge outdated narratives.
So, we created CAPE (Character and Pediatric Education): a space where students can use art and storytelling to rewrite what childhood representation looks like.
By blending creativity with service, CAPE empowers young people to lead, publish, and give children the kind of stories we wish we had growing up.
